Advertising
It is no secret that a few months ago, I finally got roped in. On most pages on that site, there are some ads in the sidebar, tailored, so we are told, to the user's interests. Then why was one of them for this today? I don't even own a television right now. Oh, wait, could it be the fact that "foreign languages" is listed as one of my interests? That's some definition of "tailored."

I thought your TV-free days were behind you. Didn't you have a screen for watching movies? Was it, perhaps, divested?
Indeed it was. Besides having some minor malfunctions, it was neither particularly good for watching DVDs nor anywhere near digital-ready. The decision was not hard. As luck would have it, I did not even need to take it to be recycled. An employee of my old apartment building took it to play video games on. All I had to do is bring it downstairs.
Calvin: Did you watch the movie on TV last night?
Hobbes: Nope.
Calvin: Did you watch the game then?
Hobbes: Nope.
Calvin: Did you watch any TV last night?
Hobbes: Nope.
Calvin: Then what did you watch?
