Professionalism
Person A asks for a modification to be made to a piece of software. Person B expresses some reservations. Person A says to me that Person B is, and I quote, full of shit. Never mind that Person B's concerns were most likely unfounded. How do you begin to take seriously someone who is capable of such utter lack of respect for their colleagues?

I just managed a programmer who would tell me that everything I asked her to do was impossible. Then she'd do it.
This is apparently known as "The Scotty Principle" and is to be expected.
If this was a programmer, I would be a little less shocked. This was a project manager.
To be devil's advocate, some people are full of shit, no? People are human and emotions come out, even during the 9 to 5 hour :). If nobody ever said at work, "so and so is full of shit," work would need some levity to balance things out, me thinks. I agree that professionalism should be strived for, but sometimes shit is just shit to a person. (I hope I'm not defending JWG).
Aimee,
I agree that some people are full of shit, but frankly, I think it's everyone's responsibility not to let their emotions show in the work place. It's one thing if I went out for a beer after work with MM or SR and one of us said that that. It's quite another when this project manager bad-mouths a colleague, within other people's earshot, to someone (me) who has to balance both people's interest in my own work. That's highly unprofessional and can't be excused.
And no, you're not defending JWG, don't worry :) I think that's actually one thing JWG wouldn't do.
